genart: a Claude Code skill for long-form generative art
A free, open-source Claude Code skill for generative art: choosing a platform, hash-seeded determinism, traits and rarity, checks before a release.

Generative art, algorithmic art, creative coding: whatever you call it, a long-form series means solving the same problems every time. Seeding from the token hash, rendering at any size, meeting the platform’s constraints, checking that the same hash always draws the same work. None of it is the interesting part, and any of it can break a mint.
genart is a skill for Claude Code that knows these things, so that you spend your time on the piece. Install it with two commands, talk about your sketch, and it loads on its own.
What it covers
- Platforms: Art Blocks, 256ART, Verse, Highlight, Plottables, bootloader.art, self-hosted, and Artpoint for screens. It helps choose, and reads each platform’s real documentation before writing code for it.
- Determinism: everything from the hash, and the traps that silently break it, from a
Math.random()left in the code to state shared between two renders. - Any size, any output: Canvas 2D, p5.js, three.js and WebGL, SVG; the same composition at 400 and 4,000 pixels; PNG, video, loops and plotter export.
- Traits and rarity: the table before the code, and what only shows up after the mint.
Checks before the mint
Two scripts ship with the skill. One tests that a sketch is deterministic: same hash, same image, run after run, and traits that stay stable. The other renders a contact sheet or a census of thousands of outputs, to judge the edition rather than a single image.

Your piece, your choices
These are defaults, not rules: when you break one on purpose, the skill says what it costs, then does what you asked. The work stays yours.
It is free, under the MIT licence, and open to corrections from anyone who knows a platform better than I do.
